Wayne Rooney rise to stardom really became apparent during Euro 2004, in which he scored 4 goals.
England would be drop out of the competition in a quarter-finals penalty shootout against Portugal, a game Rooney wouldn't finish sustaining an injury early on.
He as since became one of the great hopes for the English squad for the next international tournaments, particularly the 2006 Germany World Cup.
